In Gdańsk I was looking for the former Gdańsk […]” – G.Grass
Did you know that the famous writer Gunter Grass lived in the immediate vicinity of the Hevelius Brewery?
Close by, there is even his fountain and a bench, where he sits with a little Oscar – the hero of his novel “Tin Drum”. In this and his other novels, the Nobel Prize winner refers to Wrzeszcz and the local Brewery on several occasions.
During the literary walk, the obligatory points on your list include the aforementioned fountain and the surrounding square, Kuźniczki Park adjacent to the Brewery, tenement house at 13 Lelewela Street, where Grass lived, or the surrounding churches important to him. There are several such places in Wrzeszcz, which makes the walk very diverse.
The very centre of Gdańsk can also be found in the writer’s literature – the Coal Market, the Great Armoury, the “Jacek” Tower or the Square of the Defenders of the Polish Post Office are just some of the places the author referred to in his novels. However, the Gunter Grass Gallery located at Szeroka Street in Gdańsk is a real treat. We will find there the Nobel Prize winner’s artistic works – graphics, sculptures and drawings.
We highly recommend the place!
